sick chicken penguin walk

I believe the last time she laid was last year during mid season.

We deed her scratch and oyster shells mixed together maybe some rice every so often.

Everyday I make sure their waters clean. I even try and setting it in the shade before work.

Sadly she's then only one in the back we have another rooster with another chicken in the back. I'm not sure how bold she is but she already laid eggs before barely last year.. I started noticing her about three days ago. Before that I would notice she would not want to come down in the mornings. I thought just thought she didn't want to be stepped on by the Roo!. Right now she is very active, it seems the tums helped her out a bit.

Feeding scratch to a hen is like us trying to live on lollipops. Very little nutrition. NOT GOOD. She needs to be on a good quality hen layer food immediately, if not sooner. Scratch should only be given as a snack. She does not have the nutrients she needs to make healthy eggs or to push them out. The feed store should have some healthy vitamin treats to help build up her health and/or something you can add to her water to accomplish same. She needs (they all need) very fresh water every day, absolutely in the shade on any days it is going to be hot. Bring her in to a nice warm comfy spot to get good rest tonight (all nights really). I know you want her to be well.

I really want to thank you for your help! :) :) is there anything else I can give her for now that is great for me to give her? The feed store is closed until tomorrow:( I heard about adding a little bit Of apple cider in her water. I'm watching her closely and I'm just angry at my family for looking at me like a 'Crazy Man"'

To cheer her up a little, you might offer her a small amount of cut up (small easy to swallow pieces) blueberries and/or grapes and/or tomatoes. Really fresh, never with any mold, and just a little if she's not used to these things. Since she's been feeling poorly, raising spirits is always a good thing. It is not the cure, but it is important. And then hen layer food asap tomorrow. Some hens like a freshly made snack of lukewarm oatmeal - mine never liked the stuff but some hens really like it. Do you have/can you get asap today black oil sunflower seeds? (most grocery stores will have) Also very healthy for hens and is believed to help with egg laying.

A tiny bit of apple cider vinegar (ACV) in her water would be okay (we don't want her to reject water right now, so just a wee bit). Actually, the kind to give is Bragg's ACV 'with the mother', meaning it has the most nutrition this way. If you don't have it, I'd probably not bother with regular ACV.

Thank you so much jjthink !! :) I will kook for that oil sun flower seeds now that she looks fine. I wasn't too sure what to feed her when we got her, but I knew that scratch all the time just didn't seem right. I will jeep her warm tonight and get some grapes for her. :) :) I will keep you updated on her for sure!! My dog died last year in Jan, and sadly I wasn't there at the time to care for her.:( I got to see her but it was too late. That's why I refused to let my chicken die and see sadness in their eyes.

You're welcome. Fresh sunflower seeds should be pretty easy to find fast. You can get the smallest bag, She may seem fine at the moment but given what you said she looked like for 3 days, this is not likely resolved - probably just a short lull, so best to continue to treat as emergency until you're absolutely sure she is gets past what is ailing her.

Grapes, blueberries, sunflower seeds - all of these things are healthy snacks, but the hen layer food should be available to her 24/7 for her to get the nutrition she needs. Always fresh, never old. Some places will provide in bags smaller than 50 pounds. If you only have a few birds, most of a 50 pound bag will go bad before you can use it. See if they have smaller size bags or if they will sell you a smaller amount from the 50 pound bag (check the expiration date to make sure the food is fresh) . IF they only have 50 pound bags, then also get 1 gallon plastic ziploc bags and fill each one with layer food and seal it and keep those sealed bags in a cool dry place. This way while you are using one bag, the others will stay fresh longer. You may also in time find a 4-H person also with just a few birds who can split a bag with you each time so that the food stays fresh. But don;t wait to get it - the birds need food that has the vitamins and minerals they require to be healthy.

DOES SHE HAVE CRUSHED OYSTER SHELL AVAILABLE TO HER AT ALL TIMES?!??!?!?!?!??!?!?!??!?!?!?!

This is urgent, if you don't have it already. The feed store will have. This is necessary for her body to be able to make eggshells. Without sufficient calcium, she could have unformed eggs that get stuck.

My bird is I. Her last moments and it crushes me to see her like that!! :( all anybody can say is"give her medicine" or "put her in the pot"! Not enough money for a especislist , were having "Bad" economic problems here. What's funny us that mY dogs and rooster are laying down next to her!

What is this sentence in your note meant to say? "My bird is I"

It sounds terrible, from the rest of your message. If she is back to looking sick, there were options like pressing to find a vet or 4-H person with experience and willing to help for little or nothing. Or at least to very humanely put her out of her misery if she is really suffering and/or now dying. I hate reading these things when no action is being taken to meaningfully help :(. Sounds like you have no support to help you and that makes me ill.
