sick chicken please help!!

Hi, If your ex batt hadn't laid in 4 days she could be egg bound. I know you said you didn't know what to look for and seeing as it hasn't been mentioned I thought I would. You need to feel under her belly. Does it feel swollen and warmer than usual. Check another hen to get a comparison of what it should. If it is then you will need to help her to pass the egg. Soaking her belly and backside in warm water for 15 mins will help relax her. You can try to give her some oil and calcium (I heard a calcium table for humans works best as it is quickly absorbed, 1/2 tablet will be enough). I haven't had an egg bound hen yet but other people will be able to offer more advice if this is the case. GSE is a good idea anyway if she's eggbound to stop infection, or if it's another sort of infection causing the problem, but I wouldn't jump to say it's Coryza due to lack of symptoms. It could be anything at this stage. Good luck

A drench is just a nutrient dense substance you give them to kind of give them a boost. You can usually find them at livestock stores or the local Tractor Supply or you can make your own, as I did. I had great success using it on my very sick chicken (who I was pretty sure wasn't going to make it but did). Usually you just squirt it down their throats. It gives them a little boost of energy, so if perhaps, they have not been eating (and they aren't beyond this point), it can be enough to rev up their appetite and give them the energy to make it to the bowl. Often when animals get sick, they die from starvation/dehydration rather than the illness itself because they lose the desire to eat and drink (like I often do when I am sick) but they don't have enough reserves to carry them through the illness (I have too much in reserve!) Hope this helps.
