Sick chicken purple comb, urine smell, skinny

Hmmm... and no other symptoms? Is her vent nice and clean? Is her breathing normal? When was the last time she laid an egg? Sorry about the questions, it’s just hard to tell what’s going on. I haven’t heard of the urine smell before, so I’m not sure what it means. Could she have gotten into a toxin of some kind?

Sorry I had a hard time replying. I am not sure when she laid her last egg. She seems to be breathing normal. Her vent looked fine after I soaked her in warm water. She had crusty feathers around her vent.

This morning I made her an egg like recommended and she is eating it right now actually she is very excited about it. I am going to see how she is tonight then decide on whether to take her to a vet or not. I wormed with Safeguard her Sunday night could that be helping her out?

I wormed her with Safeguard. I believe the smell was from the crusty stuff by her vent. She seems to smell better this morning

What dosage of safequard did you use ?
Normal dosage is 1/4 ml per pound for 5 days in a row.

That's good that she smells better today. It could have been from the dirty feathers if she was crusted up.

With her age and not being sure about when she last laid an egg, she may have a reproductive or internal laying disorder like Egg Yolk Peritonitis, Ascites, cancer or tumors. Symptoms include lethargy, not eating, weight loss in the breast muscle, difficulty breathing/walking, sometimes fullness/bloat in the abdomen and sometimes poop that looks like it has egg in it.

If you do have vet care, that is always best - see if they will perform a fecal float on her poop for you.

Keeping her hydrated is most important, if you have vitamins to add to her water that would be good. Check her crop to see that it's emptying, sometimes is a crop is not functioning well, that is an indication she has something else going on whether it's worms or repro problems.

I hope she get better soon, please keep us posted.

You are suppose to give safeguard more then one day? I only gave her a pea size bit of paste once.

Hi @swadle
Do you have any photos of her so we can see her comb?
Can you tell where the smell is coming from?
Photos of the poop would be good too.
What did you worm her with?

An ammonia/urine smell sounds like a kidney problem. Do you notice if she has any bloat or feeling of fluid in the abdomen - is her butt draggy?
Getting a fecal sample tested would be a good idea if you have a vet. Do the best you can to get her drinking. Offer her her normal feed along with a little chopped egg or tuna for protein. If you have poultry vitamins, add those to her water as well.

Here is a picture of her poop. we put her in the garage and she walks around pecking but does not eat or if so not much. She actually is acting a bit broody but not. I am not sure if I should take her to the vet.

When I got home I found this on the floor. She loks like she is in a daze. I have a vet appointment tomorrow. Any
