I noticed on of my hens hasn't ate for a few days, I assumed she was just being a bit broody. Today I noticed her back side was looking REALLY nasty. I've tried cleaning her up a bit and she's really red and has some nasty colored poo.. what do I need to do for her? Any idea as to what the cause might be? Does she need to be separated?

Try organic apple cider vinegar with the MOTHER in it, 1 Tablespoon per gallon of water, and soak her bottom with warm water to wash it. There's plenty of information on this site regarding yeast infections in hens. Hope this helps.

Can you get her cleaned up with a warm soak in some Epsom salts or Dawn and water? If she is too weak, this could be dangerous, so use caution. It might be better to just clean off the area with soap and water. Then take a clearer picture. How old is she? Does she normally lay eggs? Can you try to get her drinking some fluids, and offer some cooked egg? Does she have anything coming out of her vent that looks like egg material? How does her crop feel—empty, full, firm, or puffy like a balloon? How does her breath smell?

Yes Im reading up on it now.

One question though, what do you mean by cider vinegar with the mother in it??

It's the cloudy stuff in organic apple cider vinegar. I found some at Aldi of all places, otherwise if you can get a hold of Bragg brand, that has the mother in it. It's an imbalance of flora in your hen, hopefully you can manage it yourself. Good luck!
