sick chicken

Hi,
I have a 3 and a half year old Ameraucana that is quite listless and has no interest in food or water. Just yesterday she was out and about with the other chickens. Any thoughts?

How does she look? Is she interacting with the others or off to the side?
Does she walk like a penguin? Is she molting? Can you send some pictures and more info please.

Since those symptoms can be common in a lot of illnesses, it would be good to feel of her crop and describe if it is full and hard or puffy, or empty. Look her over for lice and mites under her belly and the bent. When did she lay an egg last? Does her lower belly seem enlarged? Has she lost weight when you pick her up? Can you offer some electrolytes or Poultry NutriDrench?

I hope they are ok. Are they playing with the other girls. Mine has nimble foot. They died from that!

Hi,
I am not sure what brought on her illness. She's a little more mobile today and drinking lots of water. I did add electrolytes to her water. She does not feel egg bound. Possibly mites? I gave her a rub with diatomaceous earth today also. Any other thoughts?

If you are thinking mites/lice you will need to dust all birds and clean the coop thoroughly.
Is her poop looking normal?

You will see lice or mites on her crawling around if she has them. Lice and some mites will be there 24 hours a day, but one type of mite only come on them at night, so check under her vent and elsewhere with a flashlight or head lamp while she is roosting. If one has them, they all would have them. Permethrin is very good at treating for those, and both the birds and coop have to be treated periodically.

Thanks for all of the responses! She is more mobile today; even more than yesterday. She's not really eating though. She still does not feel eggbound, but she is keeping her tail down. I checked her vent. It is clean, yet very pale. She is kind of keeping herself away from the other girls.
