Sick chicken?

I have 8 New Hampshire crosses that are 22-1/2 weeks old. They’ve been laying 3 to 5 eggs a day for 2 weeks and every morning for last 5 days I find a soft white egg shell on the ground under the roost, the first time it was an egg with yolk and all. Since then it is just a torn paper thin soft shell. Does anybody have an idea what is happening?

Make sure they have access to layer feed and oyster shell. She may not be getting all the nutrients that she needs to be laying. Plus it sounds like she is a pretty new layer.

Yes they are on layer feed and have oyster shell and they forage quite a bit. They are 22 weeks old. Currently getting 3-5 eggs a day from 8 hens. Just keep finding the paper shell under the roost in the morning.

Probably another bird has started laying.
They'll eat most if not all of a softshell egg if you don't find it first.
Be patient, gather eggs frequently.

They are laying good eggs in nesting boxes during the day. This soft shell thing is happening at night while they are roosting.

Yes, softshell eggs are hard to move down the pike(nothing hard for contractions to push against)so they are often laid off roost at night or anywhere else.
It can take new layers up to a month or so to smooth things out.
Meanwhile, eggs everywhere, some of them can be rather funky looking, soft or thin shelled, huge double yolked eggs.
