Couple of Questions:

She has not layed an egg at all, but could that just be because she is not feeling well?
The only problem I have now is that she is not going to the bathroom very often. When she does, it is yellow and runny.


She is doing a lot better than the beginning. Her comb has stayed a light red all day. I felt a ton of feed in her crop this afternoon, so she is eating on her own now. She can also walk the entire perimeter of the run (8x24' and a steep inline) before laying down for a rest, and even then, is not breathing heavily. She is still a little wobbly, so she just takes it slow and can walk fine.

New update! She is feeling much better. She is up and walking around, eating and drinking on her own. He tail does not stay down as much either. She was out in the big run all day and was pecking around and preening herself. She still looses some energy, but not as quickly. She is also walking slowly, but she is walking more often.

She still cannot go up the ramp, but has been eying it all day. We'll see how she does tonight. If she can make it up, we'll leave her in the big coop, if not, she'll go to her little pen at night.

I think I will worm only her with pour on ivermectin, and do the others at a later time, probably fall/winter. We are losing out on about 150 eggs in this 10 day period, and they will start moulting soon.

I have a 3+ year-old Rhode Island red. She is lethargic, cannot balance properly and has a very dull red comb. She seems to eat, but at night she does not jump up into her little "pod" in the coop. she stays on the ground with the babies---they are about 3 months old. In the morning, she does not leave the coop. I'm don't know what's wrong with her. I have limited chicken experience. Could this be coridiosis?

I thought cocci too, but she does not have any blood in her poo. She is very interested in everything happening around her, she just can't move very well. As for drinking, I am forcing her to drink every hour. She is not touching the waterer or food right now.

I have a hen that I am sure has cocci but no feed stores are open due to the 4th of July. Worried she will die before I can treat her. Did start her on a broad spectrum antibiotic this morning as it was the only one I could get at a pet smart. Anyone have any suggestions?

I don't think I would give her the antibiotic. It won't do any good and it might harm her since her intestines have already been damaged by the Coccidia. I would give her yogurt and vitamins/electrolytes and hope for the best until morning.

@ Jenreinke, In a pinch I have taken an egg yoke mixed with a small amount of water or gatorade in an eye dropper to give them something to help them out until I could get the meds they needed. If it is cocci, the antibiotic won't do any good for her anyway.
