Sick Chicken

Update on our "Little Yellow". This leghorn hen is doing better. We still have not been able to identify the main problem. We started tube feeding her. That saved her life. I am very grateful to everyone who have us advice and links on that. I was saddened that at most stores we went to get all the supplies had the attitude of "why try, it's just a chicken." Anyways, tube feeding allowed us to get the her some nutrients and that was enough to jump start her. After tube feeding for 2 1/2 days, her energy came back and she started eating better on her own. Still have not had an egg from her yet, but are giving her some time to come back and regain all the weight she lost. Any ideas on how long we should give her before we should expect an egg? Only weird thing still is that she shows little interest in meal worms. That used to be her favorite treat, now she hangs back when we give them those. However if bread is served she is in there fighting for her fair share. I do not think she is all better, but am happy that she is improved over where she was. We welcome any other feedback from anyone on this matter.

Thanks to everyone who commented on this thread. Special thanks to Ten Chicks and Sarevan. The tube feeding saved our little bird. Our leghorn is back and healthy and started laying again about a week ago. We still are not sure what she had, but the tube feeding was the trick to getting her back. Once her strength was back I guess she fought off whatever she had on her own. I was happy for the help from this forum, everyone else out there (at all the stores) just told us to let her die. When looking for the supplies to tube feed her, we were told more than once, "what's the point, it's just a chicken." If it had not been for the help we got here, she would not have survived. So THANK YOU all!!
