Sick Chickens from an Auction

Last year I raised up some barred rocks, americaunas and cuckoo marans. A mink took 5 of them over the winter so I went to a bird auction on May 4th and brought home Six Sapphire Gems and 3 Buff Orpingtons. The only information I got with them was that they are Spring 2019 hatch and from the same breeder. They were in similarly built transport cages.

All the chicks looked healthy and lively so I put them in the coop. Everything was well until the 11th, a week later. I found one of the Sapphire Gems dead in the middle of the coop. The night before, the chick was fine. It seemed out of nowhere. Although there were no signs of a fight, I assumed it was bullying. (I have four older laying hens left)

I went out the next morning and found 3 more birds dead where they slept in the coop. 1 buff and 2 gems. We've been having some rainy/chillier weather here in upstate NY (40s at night). I noticed they stood out in the rain during the day with the older hens. I thought maybe the dampness might be too much for them.

I brought them into the garage and put them in a brooder with a heat lamp. My last fine seemed to be doing better than the last two weeks. Today, the weather got a little nicer and the rain seemed to have let up so I took the mess makers out of my garage and back to the coop. In the move, I found one looking lethargic, pale and very skinny. She was fine during the morning and ate well. Im afraid she will be dead by morning.

I am suspecting worms after some research but its something I haven't dealt with before. What do you guys think? Where can I get dewormer or how can I better protect my flock?

Please help!

That doesnt sound like worms to me, more like coccidiosis. Can you take a fecal sample to a vet for testing? Shouldnt cost much.
For some reason this didn't cross my mind. I can call the vet in the morning. I didn't notice any bloody poop.

I would advise you to avoid poultry auctions for birds. It's a high stress area with birds bringing in all kinds of diseases and sharing them. Many aren't immune to things.

You could get a deceased bird tested to find out why.

There are 9 types of cocci that chickens can get, only 2 show blood in feces. It's possible there might be other types infecting your birds. If the microscopic slide is loaded with cocci, then you'll know for sure. The vet will tell you if there are worm oocysts as well.
