Our 4 chickens started laying eggs about a month ago. One of them laid an egg that didn't seem to have a shell, yolk and white was found but no shell. Actually, it looked like a membrane was hanging out of her. She's was moving about slowly, her feathers sort of puffed out, her bottom looked swollen? She walked herself back to the coop and is now just sitting there. Anyone have any experience like this? suggestions? is this normal for them since they just started laying eggs? Thanks in advance.

it might becouse they just started laying. but i would give them oyster shell you can get at most feed stores or give them there egg shell back crush the egg shell well tho

Soft shelled eggs are normal for new layers. Moving slowly, swelling and puffing up are not. Those are signs that your chicken isn't feeling well. With her bottom looking swollen, she might have an egg stuck. Run some nice, warm water in the sink or bath tub. Enough to cover her vent, and let her soak for a while. This usually helps them come out. If it doesn't, you may have to lube up a finger and help it along. Good luck :)
