A little while ago i posted about my tiny little silkie who isn't eating. No poopy butt, but VERY SKINNY. Now theres another one that seems a bit lethargic as well, not as bad, but it's been that way for awhile and now i'm getting worried. I've tried to hand feed her, water her, etc, but nothing works. I'm afraid it could be a disease and spread to my other babies, but all of the other ones are feathered out, healthy, etc. It's very discerning. One more thing, is it normal for silkies to have more protruding breast bones than other breeds? My Araucanas seem pretty fat but the silkies are always so ittie bittie.

maybe its the breed and how silkie's develope, or its sick, i guess just care for it and hope for the best

Hi I raise silkies and yes they can have a breast bone like you described however it usually means they are too thin. I had to start feeding mash twice a day because one of mine was too thin
So on top of the regular seed twice a day I'll wet the seed mash it up and they seem to eat more that way. Then I'll give fruit or snack once a day too. Now thank God my thinnest one gained weight. You might try the mash. hope this helps. Also have grit in their food so they can digest their food more efficiently. Or have the girt available to them. Good luck.

How old are they, any runny poop, fluffed feathers, lethargic? Always be on the look out for cocci to rear it's ugly head. If more than one chick are acting ill,i would treat for cocci. Purchase Corid(amprol) Dosage for Corid powder is - 1/2 tsp per gallon of water, Dosage for Corid liquid is - 2 tsp per gallon of water. Treat all chicks for 5 days,do not give vitamins during treatment(interferes with medication)give vitamins after treatment.

I agree Realsis, my silkies love when i add warm water to their feed(mash)they just gobble it up.

i just separated the two, and gave them yogurt mashed with their feed and hand fed it. Their crops filled up after about an hour of this. They're drinking lots of water now! but watery poop is a problem and yes they are lethargic. I'm determined to make them better, oh and their one month old, almost 5 weeks. I'm going to give the separated silkies boiled egg, hoping the protein will fatten them up.
