My Perkin duck is 5 weeks old, is in the process of feathering. There is this weird 2 inch purple spot on it’s right side behind the wing. What is wrong and what do I do?

Had the ducks just gotten out of the water? It's a little hard to see the spot you're referring to. When did you first notice it? No bleeding or anything?

Yes I’ll take a picture when they are dry. I noticed it about a week ago. No bleeding as far as I can tell

I don’t think so sometimes she reacts to touching.

Those are better pictures! I hope someone else can weigh in. It's definitely odd - do you have vetericyn? I might spray the area with that just in case and then just watch her really closely to see if you can get any more clues to what happened there. Poor girl!

Have you noticed anyone picking on her and possibly pulling out feathers? How big is your brooder?

Also what are you feeding them? When they are growing in feathers they need lots of protein and nutrients. I wonder if something could be missing.

Otherwise, no idea what is causing it. However, you can put bacatracin on it to prevent infection. Just make sure it doesn't contain pain relief meds.

@Miss Lydia @HollowOfWisps any thoughts?

I'm sorry I really don't know why there is brusing unless the duckling was maybe picked up and squeezed to hard.
I agree with @Quatie what are you feeding and are you supplementing with niacin?
Brusing usually goes away in less than a week hopefully this will be so for your duckling.

I only have two ducks but I’m just feeding them nonmedicated duck feed and oats
