So happy to hear this, after your one post last night about him laying there and the flies were on him I just knew you were going to lose him. What a nice way to come on BYC and hear he is doing better. Get the charcoal you can find it at Walmart in the area where they have tums and rollaids ask for it if you can't find it. Everyone should have it in the flock med kit.On a good note after meds this morning he is drinking plenty of water and eating
I gave my girl the charcoal once the first day. If you can do the charcoal 2 Xs in a day it should be fine. The trouble with charcoal, it will bind the bowels if given too often. It's not a flush and it works differently. If you do the 2 capsules or 2 tablets and can get that into them, ya done good. Leave it to work until later. Charcoal slows the system down to almost stop as it is absorbing all toxins, everything, as well as what would normally be expelled by the duck's body. You may not see poop for 24 hrs.. This is normal and how this works. You may also see some funky bright greenish black poops, don't worry about those, that's the stuff working. I would give the charcoal 2 Xs the first time and then leave it be for a day or so and see how it goes. Any poisons are already there and it may or may not be able to pull them all. What you do want to watch for is the green poops that look like bile. Usually a bright green. If you see these, don't panic, just give a 1 cap or pill dose of the charcoal and again wait and see. Keep giving the vitamins as well. After the first couple of days, start decreasing the Super B. It will have done it's job if it's going to and you don't want to risk an overdosing of it. Time is the healer here, sad but true. I really wish there was something I could tell you differently. If this is really botulism, believe me, you are extremely lucky the duck is still alive, as am I. Usually, by the time you notice the symptoms, it's already too late. I lost one last year in 24 hrs. before I even knew what it was. Thanks so much everyone. I'm not giving up on the little guy.
He was very strong with his legs today trying to get the antibiotics down him.
On that link with the flushes it says you need to give the charcoal 6-8 times? 6-8 times in one day or once a day 6-8 days in a row?
I work all day and won't be able to do that until Saturday.
And I can't tube so should I just put it in a syringe and drop it in his bill let him swallow it?
I will try to get charcoal today
Look forward to an update!I'm sorry to those who have lost duckies. I do appreciate all the help.
It sounds like if we started to notice this on Saturday and its Thursday and he is still here that's a good sign.
Girlfriend confirmed they are about 8 weeks old not 5.
As of right now it's 500 mg of niacin in a gallon of water. Amoxicillin and went back to B complex as it has higher doses of vitamins than polyvisol. I try to get a couple drops in his beak and hope he gets it down.
Also brewers yeast in the feed.
Can't wait to get home and check on him.
I will try to stop at TSC and get some electrolyte vita packs
For right now hold off on the added niacin and the brewers yeast. The Super B and the Durvet vites will more than carry him for now.Ok so for when I get home...
I picked up the durvet vitamins and electrolytes.
I will add this to the water. It says on the bottle one scoop per gallon. Thus giving him 22.5 mg of niacin. I have all this different stuff now. Just wondering what I should be giving.
Should I still add a 250 mg niacin tablet in the water with the Vit and electros?
And then still continue with the b complex as well?
I don't want to overdose the little guy.
Hope to find charcoal on the way home from work at cvs
