Hey all!

I have a duckling that recently started standing and zoning out and peeping, with one eye droopy. He still eats and drinks, But definitely not as energetic as he normally is.

Is there something i should be worried about? Is he just tired? Any advice would help!

will add he also nods off when i pick him up and hangs his head

Can you post a video of the duckling?

Have you noticed any other things like excessive head shaking? Does it look like it is panting a lot?

It is possible it could be something or absolutely nothing. Some ducklings pig out and then nod off. As they grow, it takes a lot of energy to grow and some are less energetic. With it eating and drinking normally, it seems like it could be nothing, but always good to double check.

What kind of feed and do you add nutritional yeast or brewers yeast ?
Is baby on any vitamins ?
What’s the Brooder set up like ?
How hot and can they get to completely cool off ?
Does he have water deep enough to dunk his head ?
Do you use cold water ?
Can you post pics of the brooder set up
Sorry so many questions but this helps us to help you :)

Let me figure out how to add video here lol😂 no head shaking or panting, but this morning looks like he’s just stumbling on his feet and wants to sit down a lot. Eating and drinking more than last night as well so for that I’m relieved.

I’m currently using the Purina start&grow medicated crumble feed (but no additional yeast)

I’ve been putting electrolytes in their water feeder.

They have an enclosure to run around in with a heat lamp on half (the other half where they can cool down as needed)

I have one of those poultry gravity waterers that fill up the little tray so i may need to get something they can dunk their heads in…

I’ll send brooder pics when i get home! This morning he seems to be limping around and keeps shutting one eye occasionally… just wants to sit down and rest but still eating and drinking if i bring the food to him

If that is medicated chick feed I would switch that
I was told never use medicated
Yes they need something deeper to dip there heads in to clear the eyes and nose
I just take a plastic container and cut the lid so they can get their heads in but not jump in and swim in it
Ducklings need more niacin so adding nutritional yeast or brewers yeast is a must
If this is a start of niacin issues getting vitamin B complex into him right away would be best

Attached a picture of my water dish I made with holes
Mine already need a bigger one so going to make another one today. I don’t usually keep the small water thing after a few day’s but these guys enjoy playing in it so left it as well
