I own a pond and about 30 geese in all behind my house. One family of geese has a batch of six 1.5 month old goslings who are almost full grown. Because there are snapping turtles in the pond that frequent other lakes around my pond and then come to mine we see many foot injuries on the babies and the adults. I found a goose with a wound on her ankle and one on the bottom of her foot. She was limping horribly and luckily since she was so slow I was able to pick her up and bring her back up to my house where I then cleaned the wound and put neosporin on it. That night I pulled out my niece's trusty swimming pool and filled it with some nice cold water (IT WAS AROUND 93 OUTSIDE YUCK!). At around 8pm Thursday night her parents and 4 siblings walked up and surrounded the kiddy pool and began to cry for her to come to them. I then took her out of the pool and she hopped with her parents back down to the pond (I wanted her to be with her family because they obviously love her). I then proceeded to walk down to the pond and find her each day. (I did take her to the vet and they told me to take her to a rescue because we probably wouldn't be able to handle it but the rescue is overcrowded and she's extremely shy and there is no reason to separate her from her family and home just for some wounds). As I was walking down there to check on her tonight I noticed that her foot looked a little more swollen than before and so I took some antibiotics that I purchased at the feed store and poured it directly on the wounds after cleaning them and placing on neosporin. I am now keeping her overnight and she is out in my garage with a small fan on her in a medium sized dog crate to keep her from further injuring herself. Has the infection gotten into her blood stream? (SIDE NOTE: AFTER I BROUGHT HER HOME SHE HAD A LOT OF DIARRHEA ALL OVER ME AND MY YARD IS THIS A SIGN OF SICKNESS OR WAS SHE JUST SCARED?) What should I give her to help and infection? Do I leave it open or wrap it? Should I try to purchase some penicillin from my local vet?
