I have a pond behind my house (legally owned) where my geese stay. There is a goose that is about 1/3 to 1/4 the size he should be and he is 1 month old. He is an only baby and I don't know whether or not I should bring him into the house with me to administer some starter/grower food and help him hopefully get to normal size. This goose has already partially imprinted on me as he loves to be petted and held. The only reason that I haven't yet taken him in is because I know his parents love him and he loves them and I would not want to hurt their feelings or put them in a distressed state of mind if I took the little gosling. (tonight when I held him i observed two visible fang marks piercing through the webbing between his toes after grabbing him before he ran into the water where a copperhead was swimming by which means this must have happened earlier) Along with my other concerns there are tons of snapping turtles in this pond and I have had to nurse 3 geese back to health after their legs were broken as a result.

If the parent geese let you hold and pet the gosling, they may not be too upset if you take him in for extra care. The gosling would be upset if he were left alone at all. I don't know if you could take him in part time to make sure he gets extra food, but still have him spend time with the goose family so that he does not turn into a goose outcast.

I don't think he would turn into a goose outcast, Geese are pretty good about accepting goslings of any age, taking this baby may save it's life especially if there are snapping turtles in the pond. take it get it healthy take it out daily to visit with it's parents but don't let it in the pond till much larger, any way you can rid the pond of the snappers? It sounds to me like this gosling needs so help.

Thank You SO MUCH for these replies. I will go down to the pond and get him tomorrow. Also I was wondering if you have a goose with an infection in its foot (two wounds) should I take it to a rescue? Also there is really no way to get rid of the snappers. They are usually not aggressive towards the geese until mating season and then they get upset. There are so many other ponds and lakes and a stream about 1 block away (I don't own) where they stay that they will just keep returning.

If the gosling was bit by a copperhead I'm not sure if it would still be alive this morning. I hope so, but if they look infected and you don't have the means to care for it then by all means take to a rescue.
Please keep us updated on how the lil one is doing.

The little gosling (Herbert) had the fang marks through the thin webbing of his feet so the venom couldn't have entered in and the gosling with the broken leg is swimming around in the kiddy pool this morning and doing A LOT better than she was last night at the pond! She's walking better and we have administered neosporin and hydrogen peroxide twice and it has worked miracles!

Are these your gosling from your geese? glad to hear Herbert didn't get bitten anywhere else by that copperhead,
How did the lil one brake her leg? okay Hydrogen peroxide should only be used for initial cleaning of a wound after that if used it can actually hinder new skin growth. But neo is good and also saline wash is good or if you can get some Veterycin spray for wounds and infections I really like it.

Maybe some pics of these little ones some time.

I just brought Herbert and the goose with the broken leg home. I put them both in the kiddy pool and they absolutely fell in love with each other. They each copy whatever the other one ones and Herbert is following the other goose. And yes the goslings are from my geese. The other one got bitten by a snapper.

Aww poor baby so it's is going to be okay? That is great Herbert has a buddy now.

Oh they are madly in love with the other goose (Margaret) preening Herbert and were about to go to the feed store for some penicillin and some veterycin! They are so happy and whenever I took Herbert his parents weren't upset at all so him and his new friend will hopefully imprint on each other (I think they already have) and return to the pond once they're ready. I now have them in spectate little cages facing each other with some food which Margaret are that is infused with antibiotic water. I oculus the have done this without you guys! God bless! And thank the Lord for imprinting geese!
