Sick Goose

I definitely learned my lesson about leaving one there unattended. I felt so guilty about them not having a body of water here at home and there seemed like it would be a goose paradise at the time but I suppose that worked out terribly!

I don't think the food could have been moldy and I did take a look at the container with the goose food (didn't remember to check the fish food feeder) and it looked ok and dry. It's one of those gallon containers that go off in the morning and afternoon. It has a snap on top.
Of course if the food was bad I probably would not have been able to tell.

I tried cooking her scrambled eggs and oats but she seems to not have much of an appetite. I hope it's because she's getting a boost from the water I'm giving her with the chick saver in it and the bit of B12 boost stuff I've been giving her.

I don't think she could have found a hook... Our family doesn't fish there often but a few months back we did catch a neighbor on the game cams fishing without permission.
Unfortunately we moved the game cam last weekend to a nearby greenfield. So if anything was around this week we missed it.

Thanks again for all the help and advice everyone!!! I'll keep you updated.

Please do update when you can we're pulling for her. if she is drinking you could also try mixing up some of her feed into some warm water and make like a gruel, mostly warm water and just a small amount just to see if that interests her. I don't think using Activated charcoal would hurt her I have used it on myself and my dogs at times it can be found in the antacid isle at most pharmacies and Walmart.

I was unable to take her to the vet. I called him and he refused to see her. I did talk with him and told him what I have been doing and he said it sounded pretty good. I called around and the only vet that can see a goose is about two hours away and charges a disturbing amount for even an office visit.

So... That was a huge disappointment but she is doing well and improving in that she is eating, drinking and very talkative. But... She can't stand, at all. I can sometimes get her into standing position and she stay that way for less than a minute but then she falls. (I catch her) But when she falls she always falls forward and stretches her neck out and puts her beak to the ground, maybe to catch herself? She can swim great, though. I've been letting her swim in the tub. And she has movement in her legs... Apparently just not strength.
She is also still doing the head shaking thing.

I found a local guy who had a couple geese for sale and brought them home to her. She was sooo excited and she tries to get up to go play but can't. I have been taking her outside and letting her sit in the grass and socialize and then bringing her back in with me. She was so happy to have a friend again!

I read about niacin deficiency. Could that be a possibility I wonder? Maybe she was eating only the fish feed and not her feed... I am trying to think of anything...

Thanks for checking on her!!

Poor girl! She's beautiful! I don't have any advice as I'm pretty new to geese myself. I do want to wish her well though... I hope she feels better soon so she can enjoy her new friends. :)

I bought her Gamebird feed since she was not feeling well in hopes it would perk her up.
Against my better judgement I let her and her new friends play in my koi pond...
She now thinks water hyacinth tails are the best food ever!

Game bird feed should be great. Check the label and see if it lists B vitamins and if it specifically lists niacin. If not you might try sprinkling just a little on her food for a while and see if it helps. I will not hurt. I get my brewers yeast (niacin) at GNC for about 14 bucks per jar and it lasts forever.
