I had a very sick hen and everyone helped so much in ways to help, my vet and feed store thought I would have to have Blondie put down but wanted to give it the good hard effort. Blondie was very weak and I thought she was dying but after dusting her and worming her she is doing much much better. She is now strong enough to use her wings to help get around. Her left leg seems fine and she is starting to use it more and stands a little bit with it. Her right leg is not working right.
She was laying with the right leg laying out behind her. The color was off and someone mentioned it might be mites under her scales? So I did the vaseline thing and now the leg is pink and normal looking. Because she wasn't moving much she kept getting nasty and so I gave her a bath and cleaned up the leg pretty good. Now she will draw the leg up under her but it's still in a "fist". If I help her stand up right I always make that foot straighten out so she is standing on it also. She doesn't seem to be in any pain. She will sometimes move her "toes" a little and that is an improvement from a week ago when the leg/toes all laid out flat and there was no movement at all.
My whole family thinks I'm a hero because I brought her back when she was so sick and we thought dying. So I'm very frustrated that she isn't walking. Could it be she just needs more time?
