I just bought 14 hens two weeks ago that I was told were 1 year old and had been laying for 6 months. I had them for a few days and then they stopped laying. Now they are moulting, today one was not eating or running around, she was just sitting off by herself. When I picked her up she regergetated. I moved her in under a heat bulb and gave her electrolyte and vitamins. She has a runny nose and recently started this gasping motion. She looks terrible and I am not sure what to do, I am afraid that I will catch what she has or my kids might, any advice will be great Thanks so Much

So sorry to hear about your little birdy.

First thing - Isolate her.

Check to see if her crop is swollen and feels hard or mushy. Does she have a funny smell?

Give her some Apple Cider Vinegar in water - I think it's 1 tablespoon per gallon.

Hopefully someone with experience will come and give you more advice. They are going to want to know the answers to the list of questions in the sticky post in Diseases/Pests forum.

Usually you can smell something sour if you massage the crop just a bit, if the crop is the problem. With regurgitating, it usually is.

I don't think you guys can catch what she has!

I am not real sure how to feel the crop, I did fell a grainy lump but she did not like me messing with her and she looks groggy, what can I do about a problem with her crop? Does she need meds?
