Sick hen, swollen abdomen/vent area...HELP!!!l

If she is an internal layer that will eventually get the better of her ... unless you have the money to spend on a chicken "hysterctomy" ... same can live with the condition for years and others get complications such as ascites and infections.

I think I need a quick anatomy lesson. I checked my Mathilda's vent a short while ago, while I had her standing in a sink full of warm soapy water, and couldn't feel an egg right there....but I don't know if I went in far enough. Where is everything in there? I know the anus empties in, but is it on the top or bottom? Which way do I go once inside the vent to check the oviduct?

Her abdomen is so swollen she looks like she's stuffed and ready for the oven. She's hardly eating or drinking, even oatmeal. She can stand, and isn't making distress sounds, but her poops are very runny. I suspect an infection, so will be infusing crushed garlic in olive oil to give her, as well as putting vinegar in her water.

I hate it when I can't help, as with an obvious wound, mostly because I don't know what the problem really is!

Thanks in advance,
