My 3 year old hen has been acting strange for the past few months, she lost a lot of weight, her comb turned pale, she stopped laying, and she has been lethargic lately. I separated her and her poos were small, green and liquidy. But she did eat egg and her pellets, and she drank her water. Her crop never fully emptied so i assumed it was a crop issue, but then i read about worms that sit in the crop, and i thought it was that. Up until today she’s been OK, but this morning she has gone completely downhill. She’s lying down with her eyes closed with barely enough energy to even stand. She hasn’t touched her food or water, and i was away yesterday so i don’t know if she was like this yesterday too. I syringe fed her some egg and gave her the dewormer, but she is still acting the same and barely even swallowed when i syringe fed her the egg. Her crop has swollen to be larger than it was before, and now i am seeing tiny bugs on and around her crop which i assume to be mites. She has layed in the same spot for a few hours without moving and her eyes closed, and i can tell she’s just barely hanging onto a thread, is there anything i can do at this point?? My poor girl, i don’t know how it got this bad :(

Wow, I'm so sorry!:(
Maybe it is sour crop? I'm not an expert on this topic, but had a few experiences with hens dying because they ate something poisonous. I have never had a chicken with worms.
Hope your hen makes it!

That’s what i thought initially but she doesn’t smell and there aren’t any other signs that it could be sour crop besides the inflammation. I hope so too, thank you

I don’t believe that they need to specialize in poultry to do that sort of test.... I would give them a call and find out. And no, it won’t hurt to deworm her.

I know this thread is old, but just wanted to offer some advice. I had many hens pass from eating moldy food. It had a barely visible green look to it, and I assume it had been there for much longer before I could see it with my naked eye. I stopped ordering from that company when I went to open a new bag of food and there was large chunks of mold in it. Brand new! Good luck to all, and I hope this never happens to you!
