sick hen

I have a young hen with a bloated stomach. I took about 20-25 cc of clear yellow fluid off her abdomen. I cannot find anything that tells me what this may be. No one has worms-I had stool specs checked and they came back clean. No diarrhea and she is eating some. I don't want to lose her.

The only thing I have read that sounds like your hen is ascites or egg yolk peritonitis. Do a search on here for those two things and see if that helps.

Thanks for that advice-she has never laid an egg-a pullet-could it still be the egg yolk peritonitis?

i dont know if this is much help but my mom works for a vet she said it could be an infection of some sort i doubt that is much help im so sorry i hope she gets better

i agree that it's probably peritonitis. have seen this before with one of our hens. fluid in the "abdominal" area is usually a reproductive issue. if you've expressed all of the fluid, you may want to start her on some antibiotics and keep an eye on it.
