Sick Kiddo

I had campylobacter when I was about 2 I believe, and it put me in the hospital because of dehydration from severe diarrhea and constant vomiting. They found out I had caught it from playing in my grandparents backyard where magpie droppings were. I think it's one of those things were you would know something was seriously wrong if she had it.

I have a little girl who is 2 in August, and they really do seem to get ill sometimes for seemingly no reason, if it passes on it's own, she should be fine. Just keep hydrated and all that good stuff.

Hope she gets better soon x

(I suffer from occasional Googlistis too, lol)

How is Violet feeling? Better, I hope

I was surprised to see this bumped back up! Thanks for thinking of my baby, she is fine. By Monday afternoon she was her usual self, no fever, running all over the backyard at our cookout. I told my mom about the thread and y'all's opinions. My sister told me that my mom just doesn't like the chickens being in the house. Well truth be told I am about sick of it myself. By the end of this weekend they will be outside!

She would be alot sicker if it was camp. Also the chances from catching a disease is really low, unless you have a compromised immune system. Also your babies have been in the house since hatching, right? And you have ahd them since birth, highly doubtful if they haven't really been exposed to the outside world.

What I would suspect and talk to her dr about, is a possible allergy. Especially since you said it has happened at your mom's house so maybe it is something she uses that you don't. Under 3 is a high time for allergies.

When people think allergies they think runny nose, itchy skin, rashes, runny eyes. But that is just one of the 4 hypersenitivies. There are others with much more severe forms. Like the vomiting forcing the food out, and the immune system raising the body temperature in reponse to the allergen, the body will treat it just like a col or virus.

I would ask mom, and your self to keep a diary of what she is eating and see if you find any coralation. As with these type of alleriges they can become much worse everytime there is exposure.

Hope she is doing better.

There is a virus going around here too, stomach/fever with no squirtn' dirties. I doubt if your chicks are responsible. Shoot, toddlers eat stuff we don't even want to think about, and I agree. . .grandma's are priceless, but they like to get excited sometimes!!!

My kids have been around the chicks since day one. I picked the chicks up at one day old from Meyer, drove them home, then got my kiddos from my mom's house. My kids are also pretty healthy. They don't go to daycare and have only been sick a few times each. Although that does mean they immune system isn't as strong as it could be. I asked Mom about food, she said she gave her something, I forget now, but it's something she has had before. There is tons of stuff she uses that I don't though. For example, I make my own cleaners and laundry detergent. Allergies are very suspect, especially since I am allergic to darn near everything under the sun. I will start keeping track for a while and see if anything comes up.

You know, my DH got hurling ill twice in less than a week... simple solution... when you catch a stomach bug, DON'T KEEP USING THE SAME WATER BOTTLE. Duh. Suffice it to say since we switched to a spigot one No One has gotten hit with a tummy bug.

Possible that a similar thing happened with yours... if she caught a bug and drooled on her favorite toy's plastic nose for instance... germs could stick around and reinfect her again. Give all her bedding and toys a good hot wash... plastic items can be bleached... I swear that's how I avoided that bug that hit everyone in our house, and B twice... I was going around with a spray bottle of bleach getting every surface, hosing down the potty after every use... I reeked of bleach... but I didn't catch it... and other than B it didn't come back... so take that for what it's worth.

ohhhh is especially if you have allergies as they run in the family. I have them bad too. And sometimes it takes multiple exposure to develop a true allergy.
I'm allergic to silk, deathly allergic, but it didn't happen till i was 16, and I went threw the early 90's the silk shirt phase and didn't have a problem until 1994.
