Hi, everyone! I'm sure I'm the millionth to ask this very question so I appreciate your help and feel free to be like "per my earlier email" and link me to an old post. :)

Before we even start, it's too late to quarantine. :) And she's been eating and drinking the whole time.

My questions, before this long description are, do I need to do anything else and how long before I consider her out of the woods?

New chick came home Saturday and one of her little eyes was closed, she had runny/foamy poop, and she slept the majority of the first day. I put some Vetrimycin in her eye (a few times) and it's open but still watery and she seems to be itching at it some. Started everyone on Corid (we're 24 hours in) and a local chicken mom gave her a dose of oxytetracycline (no stores with Tylan or vets were open in Atlanta on Sunday and she seemed in bad shape so we went for it.)

Today, she is up and moving around much more but still seems to fatigue sooner than her flock mates, still favoring the watery eye but it is open more often than not today, poop is a lot less runny/foamy, and she seems, in general, to be in be spirits.

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Welcome To BYC

How old is she?
Can you post some photos of her, the eye and her poop?

Flush the eye really well with the Vetrimycin, see if there's any debris in the eye that may be causing the issue.
Any swelling or other symptoms like coughing, sneezing, mucous, etc.?

What was the Oxytetracycline? LA-200 injectable? When is the follow up dose(s)?
What dose of Corid are you using?

Since she's on Corid, I would make sure she's drinking very well. See that she's eating chick starter too.
Was she added to an existing flock? If so, how is integration going? If she's not doing all that well or is stressed, then you may need to separate her until she's settled a bit more and stronger.

Thank you!! I will see if I can get some shots to add. Yesterday the poop was just sort of brown and foamy and today it's more solid, a little pellety, not foamy. Her eye is a little red and watery but not excessively swollen or anything.

They are about 10 weeks old. She has been eating and drinking really well, no other symptoms besides the favored eye and fatigue.

Yes to the injectable oxy - next dose in 3 to 5 days (I'll go 3 if she's not totally better). And 2.5ml per gallon on the Corid.

Added to a flock of three - integration going slowly. The 5 new babies (with whom she is definitely bonded) stay in the run all day while the three big girls free-range, then join up around 8 and get put in the coop. A little pecking order stuff (and some dogs sniffing from the sidelines) but nothing too stressful.

Could you please post a picture? It'll help give a better idea of what's going on.

That being said, if she's eating and drinking, I would add some electrolytes to water. Hydro-hen works or a bit of gatorade. You can give a boost of energy if you mix up a little honey water and drip it into the beak with a Q-Tip.

Try to keep her eye clean. I use Terramycin Opthalmic ointment when my chickens get eye problems.

Nothing should be given extra or added to water since Corid is being administered.
Once treatment is finished, then vitamins/electrolytes can be offered.

Thanks for your help! Here is the eye situation. I woke them up and she was slow to open it but eventually did.

Good to know. I had vitamin drench and VetRx in there the first day before I could get to Corid but stopped once I added.

Right.
Specifically you would not want to give "extra" vitamins that contain B1 (Thiamine) since it *could* conflict with the Corid. There's still B1 in feed which is fine, but the drug manuals say not to give "excess B1", so to err on the side of caution, we suggest to leave off "extras" until treatment is finished.

AFTER treatment, I would give some probiotics (purchased or 1tblsp yogurt/buttermilk for each bird) to the birds for a few days. Mine love wet feed made with buttermilk and water. Just some thoughts:)

Vet Rx could still be used, just not in the water. If you feel it helps with her eye, it could be applied topically or diluted per instructions on the bottle.

I was able to catch her in the act. Any thoughts? It's back to runny again.

Looks like conjunctivitis, but hard to know the cause. I would keep it flushed with saline and get some Terrramycin eye ointment to put into the eye a couple of times a day.

Do you provide a source of grit (crushed granite) for your birds?
