1) Type of Bird: Silver Laced Cochin Bantam, Age: Around POL, Weight: Unknown

2) What is the behavior, exactly: She is Opening her beak, gasping for air... no apparent crop problems, she had some snot coming from her nostrils yesterday, i wiped them up so she could breathe, gasping lessened after i did this... her eyes are watering and have some bubbling foam-like stuff... she is shaking her head every once in awhile to shake off the eye/nose fluid, no weird smells coming from mouth, will drink and shows a mild interest in food but won't take down a whole layer pellet

3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? since i got her at a chicken swap yesterday, but condition was not apparent at the chicken swap, it wasn't until we got her home that she began

4) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma: no

5) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation: i have no idea, other than the trauma of being at a chicken show and coming how with us... the ride from the chicken show was only 10 minutes or so...

6) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all: drinking, but only when offered, not on her own really, and showing interest in food but no much...

7) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny?: none to see

8) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? i tried to feed her an egg, she took in a small bit... i have been dipping her beak and she has been drinking after i have done so, she is isolated and inside a room (not heated), but i put a heat lamp over her.

9 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?: i will do anything! i just need to know my options!

10) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.: no pictures yet

11) Describe the housing/bedding in use: i do not know how she was kept until i got her, i bought her at a chicken swap yesterday, the only reason i trusted these people was because i have bought many birds from them before, none of which have ever been sick

Personally I would give her some Tylan-50 injectable. 1/2cc in the left side of the breast twice daily for at least 7 days. If after the 7 days she relapses you will need to swap to a stronger drug like LS-50 which is water soluble.

Take very good boi-security measures or this could rip through your flock and cause problems for quite some time.

thank you!

is this coryza or mycoplasma? or asper... sp? the other one?

and which is it that the birds are always carriers?

will my local vet know which it is? (without killing the bird)

noitulover, Did you ever figure this out?

I have a sick Buff Orp chick approx 9 wks old. Acts mostly lethargic; one eye closed and runny; opens mouth and gasps for breath. None of the other chickens have symptoms. I do have this one separated from the flock now. Still eats, drinks and gets excited for treats just not as much as the other chickens.
