Sick or Injured 3 week old chick - what could the problem be?

What is corid for? All her and rest of my chickens droppings looked fine but she still had worms. I must be mad it's 1.25 in morning and got work tomorrow will find out your answer in morning good luck with what you're trying

Chuckstuck, a couple posters here recommended Corid. Can chicks this young get worms? They are only 3 weeks old.

Ugh, now 5 of 8 chicks ... no real changes of symptoms in the first two that got sick either, just still stumbling, sitting most of the time. Interestingly our silkie is still going strong (so far, knock on wood) and she is the only unvaccinated one. I am at a loss for what to do. Obviously the LS-50 is not working -- do I discontinue and try Corid? Vitamins?

No , too young.

Corid is for coccidiosis. Chicks can get it, usually up to 4 months old. If you have chicks that stand all puffed up, chances are that they have coccidiosis.
Corid is not for worms. But I wouldn't worm anyone under 4 months old or older.

6 of 8 chicks sick now. So it has been 5-6 days since the first chick started showing symptoms, and they've been on Corid for a day now (after a useless course of LS-50). Is giving them vitamins at the same time (to hedge our bets) a no-no? I gave them some vitamins by dropper but then read that you should only do one at a time.

Hi me again, bear in mind im just learning about a lot of stuff, the hard way mostly. My favourite chick died yesterday gutted! mine are about 5 months and my older ones year and bit. Have kept chickens for about four years.
Just I went to your first post and you said that they are on medicated feed, on the feed I use it says do not give to vaccinated chick as it will cancel out the vaccine! ! Maybe they do have cocidosis. Just a thought good luck with them.

Most people wait to use vitamins until the end of the Corid unless there are symptoms of a vitamin deficiency, such as curled toe paralysis. Hopefully the Corid will help soon. If I ever saw chicks your's age with multiple ones looking sick, I would treat with Corid first, rather than wait, since coccidiosis can kill soon after symptoms show depending on the strain. Yours may have one of the strains that cause a more chomic type of cocci, without the bloody stools.

Update: We have put down two of the eight chicks. One felt very cold to the touch and was no longer eating and drinking. The other was stumbling badly and seemed to have a paralyzed neck - her head was down and she would somersault whenever she tried to move.

Two are still going strong without any symptoms showing yet.

One seems sort of slow and a little wobbly but it has never progressed beyond that. She seemed to get better when we started the Corid, but she was always the least sick, so this is just a measure of small degrees.

The other three are still laying around most of the time and stumbling when they get up, but still eating and drinking. It does seem like the poop has turned green, watery, sometimes foamy. One of the sickies, a barred rock, is still our biggest girl and doesn't seem to be "failing to thrive" other than the wobbliness.

They have been getting Corid for about 4 1/2 days now, and they are just turning 4 weeks (I miscalculated the weeks when I first posted!)

Do you think this sounds like Marek's? Coccidiosis? Or something else? I just can't believe it's Marek's since the little unvaccinated silkie has gone unaffected! I just would have expected more of a bounce-back if it was Coccidiosis.

I am wondering if one of your chicks may have had avian encephalomyelitis (AE) and it spread to the others. After reading more of your chicks' symptoms it seems possible. Have you ever noticed tremors or trembling in any chicks? Have a look at this link to see what you think: http://www.poultryhub.org/health/disease/types-of-disease/2610-2/ and another one:
http://www.merckmanuals.com/vet/pou...itis/overview_of_avian_encephalomyelitis.html

You can continue the Corid for a total of 7 days if you wish.
