Hey! I just snatched up a Turkey from my boyfriend's Dad's Girlfriend's flock and it's been laying down unable to stand, When I snatched her up out of the fieled she was laying down covered in flies, I thought she was dead but when she looked at me I realised that this was absolutely sick and I had to do something -.-
Okay so here is what I know, She lived in a pen that had a lot of fieces in the pens.
her waterer had algae in it not a TRUMENDUS amount but noticeable amounts of green in the waterer.
She has had other birds die from whatever this sickness or injury is. The turkey isn't very fat chested so I am skeptical it's a weight issue on her legs.
I gave her some of my mixed grain chicken feed and some water with a few drops of honey in it. (I read a suggestion on this forum with someone who had a similar problem to put drops of honey in the water)
She tried to stand a few times tonight, These are the first attemps I have seen her try to make to stand. I dunno if they are the only one's, I doubt it is because when I go outside and comeback I sometimes find her on her side as if she fell over.
Please help me! I really feel bad for these Turkeys that keep dieing!!! I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO IS TRYING TO HELP THEM!!! Their original owner just lets them sit mangled in the field in their own fieces until hey die! I cant stand to see animals treated like this anymore!!!
