Well, the bird made it through the night and is looking marginally better, at least the eyes are not stuck shut anymore! Just gave him more medicine and water, then he did a big, liquid white poo. I'll be off to the poop thread now to see what that means
No I haven't treated for coccidosis... No idea how to get Corid! I have so much to learn! I'm ashamed to say people don't seem to invest in animal health here, at least not for animals that don't live inside the house... I was kind of relying on the vet to tell me what was needed. He vaccinates the birds once a year against Newcastle and the rabbits every 3 months against scabies. I'm slowly starting to find out about the myriads of other possible diseases out there :/
I think in the place where the birds came from, they have probably never seen a vet or any kind of medication. I probably should not have taken them once I saw what it was like, but the problem is most places around here are like that... People - including the vet that did it - (not the same vet I go to for advice now!) ridicule me for neutering my male rabbits and for freezing bottles of water to get them through the heat. I suspect that in most backyards, people let the rabbits breed as they want, because it is balanced by the high mortality rate.
Anyway I'm trying to be more "first world" about it all, which means doing my own research and paying lots of money, I think! I will talk to the vet about coccidiosis.
Thanks all of you and keep the suggestions coming!
