Sick Peahen

Disclaimer: I've only ever had to treat one with a sinus infection and it looked different that your hen:

I am wondering if his hen's sinus simply hasn't become blocked yet. That could be why it looks so different, we are used to seeing the swelling from a clogged up sinus, but this is what I would imagine an open and draining one would look like.

PS. I currently have a blocked one and it's no fun at all. I can tell when the advil wears off, because the right side of my head gets extremely painful, that ear aches, rt.eye waters and jaw aches on just that side.

When the vet gave the Tylan shot, did you give her anything else the next day? If not, you might want to give her Tylan orally. Do you have Tylan 200? If so, maybe try giving her 0.6ml per kg orally twice a day. If Tylan doesn't work, I'd try Baytril.

I really don't remember exactly, maybe he inject her the next day with Tylan also but i'm not sure, yes, i have Tylan 200, how many days i should give her Tylan?

Quote: Yeah, that thought crossed my mind, and maybe it's something that a sinus flush could fix? I read that parrots often get seeds in their choanal slit and then need sinus flushes to clear them.

Thanks, yesterday morning I felt good, had a good nights sleep the night before and I thought the antibiotics were working miracles. Found out I was just trading the old symptoms for brand new ones. Saline nasal spray is something I've been using at the Drs. suggestion so maybe a flush would help her.

Thought I should elaborate in the injection site reaction post... I gave Tylan once, and it cause a section of the muscle to die. It healed okay in that it healed over, but the dead muscle tissue never grew back, it just left a concave spot in the breast. I think I read that when used in cattle that often they have to dispose of the muscle at the injection site due to the damage, but don't quote me on that.
