Sick Pekin Duck

My female pekin is not any worse but not really improving. Now I'm noticing her and our female looks to be fighting? We have one male.

My 18 month old female Pekin duck, Posey, died last night or sometime early this morning. I last checked her about 10:30 p.m. and she had her head tucked under her wing but she has been very sick for many weeks now. I am terribly sad and Piotr, my male duck, keeps calling for her. I have been looking on various web-sites to see if anyone might have a female Pekin duck needing a good home in San Francisco. It is so painful to lose a pet that you have loved and cared for! I have spent nearly $1,000 at the vet for Posey in the last 4 weeks and now I have lost her. So very, very sad! And the most sad is Piotr who is now all alone.

Don, I am so sorry. You might have some trouble with that this time of year. Try looking on your local CraigsLIst, and also try local farm/feed stores for recommendations. You can post a flyer at those if they allow it. There are many, many people who get ducklings around Easter and want to dump them on anyone they can by now because, ummm, they got bigger.

@duckies1230 had something somewhat similar happen, so you might want to read her posts to see how she made out with it, or you might want to get in touch with her.

I'm really very sorry.

An unbreakable mirror, and as much time with other living things as possible may help him.

See if you can find some rescue groups, and contact veterinarians. I have been surprised at how many times someone surrenders a duck to a veterinarian.
