I have a 2 month old Buff Orp pullet that came down sick yesterday. She is lethargic, breathing raspy with open beak, and runny white poop. No firmness in poop or dark color at all. Her eyes are NOT swollen, no mucus from beak or nose.

Help! Any advice would be appreciated!

Also, she has been feeding on medicated chick starter until now. She was separated from rest of flock last night. No change this morning. Also, her craw feels flat and empty.

Anyone have any ideas?

This is the second time i've seen someone post these symptoms in just a couple of days.

The resource that i have been looking at (mostly for self-education) shows only two diseases with white poop, pullorum and ulcerative enteritis.

However, pullorum is supposedly symptomatic only in the first week or so of life; and u.e. doesn't include the raspy breathing.

I would really like to hear someone give a good explanation for this. Are there any other symptoms you can think of?

I'm going to be hunting online to find the answer though. I'm very curious, and i want to be prepared if this should show up in my flock.

As to the medicated starter, i think that the medication there only prevents cocci (which it didn't really do for my chickens).

I thought, according to my dealings with quail, that the medicated started also prevented the ulcerative enteritis. But maybe it just depends on the medication in the feed.

I don't know what to do for this little girl. Going to try vitamin water, I guess. There is also a poultry supplement at the feed store called VetMed that is supposed to be good for colds, etc., but I really don't know that it will help.

The pullets are all in a brand new pen just built, so I wouldn't have thought the ulcerative enteritis would have been probable, though, since it is usually caused by eating on dirty soil, right? I'm stumped!
