Hi there, I've got a sick pet button quail, Kiwi. I noticed the other day that she was oddly allowing me to pet her, didn't think anything of it until yesterday when I noticed that she is having trouble walking. She can flop around, but mostly sits there. She seemed sleepy and droopy yesterday and I gave her some Nutridrench and probios in her water and she's perked up, eyes brighter. But still no walking. It's not like she' completely immobile, and I believe she is eating and drinking. I isolated her in a small cage in side the big cage. She doesn't have any wounds. We have four quail total, they are on aspen shavings and fed game bird crumbles plus a nice salad every day. They regularly calcium.

At the end of August we lost her mate to what I thought was ulcerative enteritis (based on googling, but we only just got quail in June, so I am very new to this). I brought a fecal sample to the vet and he didn't find anything and said it was most likely a virus. While waiting for the sample to come back I put Corid in her water for 5 days. Kiwi made it through,

Get some good pictures. I see you feed them salad. Do you provide free choice grit? Also, whats in the salad?

What do you mean by grit? They have a sandbox for bathing, does that suffice as grit?

The salad changes every few days but right now has collards, dandelion greens, beets and carrot cut up superfine and tossed with calcium powder (it doubles as bearded dragon food).

I'll get pictures tomorrow.

I’ve attached a picture. Its crushed rocks they syore in their gizzards to break down their food. If they eat excluviely quail feed, then grit isnt necessary, but since they're eating other stuffs they must have the grit.
Unless they’re laying eggs they don't need calcium and you should always free feed, on the side, grit and calcium. Males can actually get harmed by calcium, I’ve heard.
Pay no attention to the brand, just make sure its for chicks so its small enough for them.
