Sick Quail

How long have you had her? I guess there’s a chance she’s just considerably older then her friend and on a natural decline? They don’t have a very long natural lifespan.... do you see her drinking water?

shes drinking and eating but her movements are slow if at all. We have had her for since december last year and her friend for even longer, at first we had two but something happened and the other flew away. We looked for her for about three weeks but then gave up looking. So it was just Buzz-bird (yes i name my birds dont judge me) for about a month but then we decided to get her a friend Tina(the one whos sick) and we had then had them together for about a couple of months now they get along great and give me alot of grief since they get in alot of trouble together . Although i think that buzz is only a couple of months old as she began laying a couple of weeks after we got her.

I guess you might want check that she’s not egg bound? If she’s eating and drinking, but not moving much, I‘d guess she’s either egg bound or just old. That said, I don’t really know how to check if they’re egg bound.... I think you have to, ahem, get a good look where it counts?

okay never mind i researched it and looked at her *ahem* butt and it does seem that she is egg bound. her but is swollen and a tad hard. Is there any thing i can do to help her?

Get her soaking in a warm (quail body temp or a few degrees warmer) epsom salt bath. Massage, apply a bit of lubrication (vaseline or something) if you can. She needs to get that egg out, or she will die.

okay well good news, weird news, and bad news (for me atleast)

good news shes doing fine and behaving like a drunk toddler again.

weird news is that since it was my first time having a sick bird, What i thought to be an egg was actually her butt bone ,whatever you call that, so i ended up rubbing her butt for a couple of hours without knowing it. She wasn't egg bound, she was constipated.

bad news (again for me) was that in the middle of all that massaging I guess I brought her some relief because she then took the biggest dump a bird possibly can right on my hand. -_- *sigh*

I dont know if thats how quail act when constipated, but Im taking a mental note to wear gloves next time I come across this.

I'm glad she's doing better. :)
