I recently got a new kit. ( quaranteened)


Symptoms- crusty yellow nasal dischharge(noticed this am around 10), breathing through mouth(noticed just before 1000)(call to vet) (possible paturella????)

Probably pastuerella. Best thing to do with snuffly rabbits is to them down. Otherwise it will spread to rest of the herd. you can try adding a small amount of terramycin to its water. If you do, its not recommended that you breed it, or keep it around the others.

I'm so sorry to hear that...was it a kit born to one of your bunnies (I wouldn't think so if you had it quarantined)?? How old was it?

Bunnies do go downhill fast by the time you are able to realize there is a problem. I figure it is because they are a prey animal with little to no defenses, so they are stoic, so as not to show weakness to predators.

disinfect the cage the sick bunny was in and put it out into the sun for a few days, unless there is another kit in with it which if is the case be prepared to put it dopwn.
Pasturella is not treatable nor cureable. you can mask the symptoms for a few weeks with anitbiotics but it will come right back and will definately infect your herd.

Any sick animal should be tended last not first.
wash hands and clothes completely.
