I noticed my red star hen was not out today. I have four chickens in a chicken tractor and she is one of them. I checked she was in the coop part. she has not come down all day. I took her out late this afternoon and noticed she acted like she had no energy and she had dark places on her comb. I checked on her late this evening and she was still in the coop, same place. I got some water in a cup and took it back out to her. I got her to drink some water, the longer I worked with her the more she would drink. she still had dark spots on her comb. I went back inside to change in to jeans(mosquitoes) and went back to see if I could get her to drink some more. she had pooped, it was runny, while I was gone. I removed the poop and got her out to give her more water. I got her to drink some more. the other chickens look and act alright. I was going to move my young chicks to the tractor this evening but now I will wait until I find out if the red star is sick and what is causing this problem. any suggestions or help? I got her from a friend this spring and she was grown then so I do not know how old she is. Thanks.

she doesn't appear to be swollen. I gently mashed on her lower parts and it felt soft so I don't think she is eggbound. I have not wormed her, I have something for roundworms but have not used yet. maybe I need to? How do I tell if she has mites or lice? I have not tried her to see if she would walk, I will try that tomorrow morning. with lice or mites wouldn't the other chickens have them also? just asking dumb questions so bear with me, thanks!

Sadly, high output, high production reds are quite susceptible to reproductive issues. Have you seen her walking stiffly and strangely during the past week? Has she appeared to sort of lower her body and quiver her tail as if she's trying to pass something? Maybe not today, but over the past week, have you noticed anything at all, or did this just come out of nowhere?

I gave her some more water this morning. I had apple cider vinegar in it(1 tablespoon). she still will not eat, I tried mealworms also. she will not walk. I looked at her stomach, holding her upside down, and she has no feathers there and it is not swollen, looks limp like it is empty. I put her back on the nest. she seemed a little more active in when I held her(maybe just optimistic).

to Fred's hens, I did not notice her walking funny,
update: I talked with a vet, he thinks it is worms. I forced her to eat something, gave her some water, which had worm medicine in it, and washed her lower stomach. she had some poop stuck to her back end which I washed off. I also moved her into the coop that I had my young chicks in, after moving the chicks into the chicken tractor. also I treated the water for the rest of the chickens with worm medicine. I hope to see some improvement soon. since I am treating them for worms how long before I can use the eggs again? I only get two a a day but I don't want to get sick from treated eggs.
