Sick Roo

I have a bantam roo that has a runny nose and his comb started to turn black. He acts like he doesn't feel up to par. He still crows but he just stands around looking like he feels bad.
Most of his comb is still red but the top part is black.

Any idea what it could be??

I added teramycine to his water. What else should I do? A old guy that used to raise game cocks told me to put a table spoon or 2 of kerosene in his drinking water. I am afraid to do that.

Nope. It was 85 degrees here today.

I found this thread because my bantam roo has just today developed blackened tips on his comb.
What is this indicative of? I am at a total loss as to what could be wrong. It is hot so no frostbite.
Darin, how has your rooster been since your last post?
Can someone please point me in the right direction?

is the comb totally black at tips or just dark blue? My japanese gets that way when he is cold. The top half of his comb gets real dark. Feel it . Is it cold? Is it just the color or a rash of some sort?

I am sure kerosene used to be a good thing to do but not these days. Times have changed.

Try some apple cider vinegar (Braggs) its organic, put a few drops in his water and five him some chopped up pieces of garlic clove. Make sure he has access to grit.

is the comb hot or cold?
does it look shriveled?
does it look pale (other then the black)..or blue?

have you tried washing off the black?
could it be dried blood?

separate him..with food and water, and vitamins..
(poultry vitamins if you can get them)..or Poly-vi-sol liquid baby vitamins (Enfanil brand, no iron)..2- drops once a day on beak, for a week or so, then taper off..

for respiratory illness:
Tylan 50 injectible or powdered..
or erythromycin..
sounds like he might have a respiratory illness coming on, but could be from exposure to dusts.

what bedding are you using?
could he have been exposed to any mold or dusts? (such as lawn/garden chemicals, dust and dander in coop)
