Hi

I have a rooster that started losing his crowing voice about a week ago. Now he cannot crow at all but he still tries.

He does act like he is labored a little bit to breath and he has lost his aggressive behavior also.

No other chickens are sick. It has not been that cold here plus we put a light in the house when it is below freezing.

Any ideas? Any way to help??

Thanks in advance:(

More info, so folks can best help you.

How old is he?
Is he eating, drinking, pooping normally?
Is he puffed up?
Has he lost weight?

Labored breathing - he is definitely sick and may need meds quickly before he gets too weak.

Can you possibly get him to an avian vet?

King is about 7 months old. He seems to be eating, drinking o.k. He is not puffed up and has not lost weight that we can tell.

We do not have an avian vet nearby.

FYI-we also put antibiotics in their water.

Any ideas?

I just went through this with my cockerel. He was sneezing and his voice got raspy. I brought him inside for almost a week, he got stronger, put him back out and he started sneezing again so back inside today. I am having trouble finding Terramycin around here. Have to order it online. The only thing I can think of is that he has a respitory ailment, that an antibiotic should resolve. Maybe being around the girls is to stressfull for him while he is fighting this too. None of the other birds are sick at all.

Do you always put antibiotics in the water?
If so, he could be developing a fungal infection, a staph infection, or a yeast infection. When the good bacteria are killed by antibiotics, it gives these other bugs an opportunity to take over.
