Sick rooster

Can you get some Poultry Cell or NutriDrench and give him a few drops daily (maximum 3 ml daily?) He may have some underlying illness that is making him so ill. I would look him over for mites or lice, especially under his vent area and elsewhere. Crop problems can come back and may be a sign of another problem. Intestinal infections, such as coccidiosis or enteritis, or something else might be possible. If you have a local vet who will see him, that might be best. They can check his droppings for enteritis and coccidiosis. Offer wet chicken feed changed daily, and some cooked egg or tuna for treats, whatever he likes to try and get him feeling better.

Thank you for your reply! Would I find the Poultry Cell or NutriDrench at the local Farm store (Tractor Supply or Orshcelns)? Would the Coccidiosis or enteritis be treated with antibiotics? If so, can I get those at the farm stores too? The vets around here do not care for chickens so I'm on my own. I will continue to check for mites/lice as he did have mites that he was treated for. For now I am feeding him cooked eggs with probiotic, garlic powder, and cinnamon and oregano oil in his water. Hopefully this helps in the meantime.....

Yes TSC sells those vitamin tonics, and you can get coccidiosis medicine called Corid in liguid or powder. Dosage is 2 tsp or 10 ml of the liquid per gallon of water for 5-7 days. The powder dosage is 1 1/2 tsp per gallon.

Enteritis requires first treating coccidiosis then treating with antibiotics. FishMox amoxicillin available online can be used for enteritis. Dosage would be 250 mg daily, and I would give half in the morning and half in the evening in food.

You are a wealth of information!!! Thank you so much! I happen to have Rooster Booster vitamins & elecrolytes with lacto bacillus on hand so I put that in his water today too. Do you think I still need the NutriDrench or Poultry Cell as well?? I’ll be heading to TSC tmrw for the Corrid. Thank you so much for the dosing info!!!

No, the Vitamins with Lactobacillus have vitamins and electrolytes, so they will be good to use as long as he drinks the water. The NutriDrench or Poultry Cell are concentrated and you only have to give a couple of drops. I hope he gets better soon.
Ok! Thanks! I hope so too!!

I'm SSSOOO glad you said something about this!! I double checked my newly purchased stool softener and it has a stimulant in it. GGGRRRRR.....thats what i get for being in a rush and not reading the label.

Got the too started on poultry cell (bought nutri drench too just in case) and started with Corid in his water. I’m wondering if I need to start the hens on Corid also??? Right now I put the rooster in a dog crate in the garage during the day and put him back in the coop at night.
