Sick Rooster

I have a exotic rooster that I got when I ordered my Red Star chicks about a year ago. He is usualy very active chasing hens and bugs in the yard. I have a flock of 20 Red Star Hens 1 red Star rooster and this exotic. About 3 days ago he started limping and for the past two days he looks very tired. His tail feathers are drooping, he lays down to peck scratch and then he goes off by himself and lays down lowers his head and looks like he is sleeping. I seperated him yeasterday and he just sits there and has not touched his feed or water today. Any help as to what I should do would be greatly appreciated.

Poor fellow. I'm not sure if the limping is the reason for all his symptoms or not but maybe some pain killer would help. ONE baby aspirin (81 mg, NO SUBSTITUTES) crushed and mixed in one cup of water (this is the rough equivalent of 5 regular (325 mg) aspirin crushed amd mixed with one gallon of water, the usual dose recommended on BYC).

If he's not drinking on his own you may need to slowly dribble along his beak with eyedropper, so he swallows on his own and doesn't choke. See how he feels with some pain relief in him.

Others will hopefully come along soon with more insight on the limping combined with looking very tired and having no appetite.....

In the meantime, if you can post the answers to these questions, it will help: Does he have any discharges? Do you know how his poop was before he stopped eating? Does his comb look good (the usual color)? What is his diet? Did you carefully check him for injuries? Any chance he could have been attacked?

Needless to say, keeping him in a calm stress free place with comfy temps can only help. If he has a best buddy it may help him to have the company of that bird, at least part of each day.

His diet is scratch, free range, the hens layer feed. His comb is normal. runnie poop. He is now sitting breathing with his beak open. He did drink half the water with the baby aspirin in it last night. I picked him up to inspect him this am I don't see any thing wrong. He is very sensitive around the top of his leg. He smells bad but I think its from pooping on himself

is his foot swollen ? I recently had a chicken die from bumblefoot because I didn't catch it in time. If it is this he needs antibiotics... now!
