Interesting article, I have him on chick feed now but what should his diet be? He is more alert, I only seen him peck at food once, He will get up once and a while but is unsteady on his feet. his poop is still the same, it looks good, nice and solid not runny. I lost a few roosters the same way so I think its the feed. Live and learn. I cant lose this guy too special to me.

An adult rooster can do quite well on a 13% protein diet as long as the complete complement of amino acids is there.
Best feed that you may be able to find is a 15% finisher feed. 13% protein would be better but you can achieve that by adding a bit of grain, greens and fruit to the diet. Since his kidneys are likely compromised, lower protein will help as well as the lower calcium diet.
Never let him run out of water.
