Sick to death of mycoplasma

The only way to have a disease free flock is to cull all your birds and bury them deep away from your coops/pens. Then wait about one month, if in fact it's Mycoplasma Gallisepticum (MG).

During the one month time frame, this will give you time to sanitize your coops, nest boxes, waterers and feeders. Sunlight will take care of the soil.
MG bacteria lasts only 3 days in the environment. You'll have plenty of time to get things squared away for your next flock.

I highly recommend ordering chicks from a reputable hatchery such as Meyer or ideal hatcheries for example, and raising them yourself.
Buying birds off Craigslist, flea markets, farmer down the road, swap meets, and untrustworthy breeders is risky, as you have found out.
Think biosecurity.
The place I bought them from was a reputable breeder dealer full blown poultry shop big company. They told me after that they don’t vaccinate the pure breeds only the hybrid hens. So no flea market back yard breeder or anything of the sort.
A well known place in my neck of the woods UK who over the years I’ve head others have had issues with.
I’ve bought from sales and back yard breeders with no issues but wanted this specific breed.

WE had Mycoplasma. We could not legally give any away or sell any--even if we knew they were getting ate. Anything we added took a chance of getting sick (either now or later)> You really only have two choices. Cull them all and start over or keep them until they all pass and then start over.

Anyone have the same? Many many years ago I bought two new hens from a local shop and as always quarantine them.
After I introduced them they got sick and so did the rest of my flock.
Turned out the two new ones were mycoplasma positive. Ever since then it rears it’s head now and then especially if I introduce new birds.
If I hatch my own I’m fine but recently bought two new girls for new blood and now this is the worst I’ve seen my flock in years.
The new girls have gone through quarantine and are fine but the rest a week after introductions are all sick with one death. She was a very old girl admittedly.
I understand stress can cause it to come out in carriers but really fed up and want to know bar apple cider vinigar and tylan in the water or culling and starting from scratch what can I do?
I’m told many back yard flocks here are mycoplasma positive.
Chickens probably all came from the same place all them years ago!
The two that originally introduced it have been gone about 5 years now.
How did you introduce the new girls to the MG flock? I am planning to add 5 healthy (🤞) chicks to my MG/MD positive flock. They are vaccinated for MD.

My flock just received their maintenance dose of Denagard and seem to be doing well. They chicks are 3 weeks and also doing well. They will have their own enclosed coop and run inside the larger coop. My girls free range from 7 am to roosting time and the full sized hen sleep in the run with only 2 using the nest boxes inside the closed coop. I do have 3 bantams that sleep in there and will be near the baby chicks during the night.

Do you have any thoughts or advice you can share? Thank you!

It is so frustrating to hear how people think these days!

Of course you can build an immunity towards MG!!!! It is a bacteria isn't it? Does the immune system fight off bacteria? YES IT DOES! How convenient for an industry that can't provide a cure, to tell you to kill your flock! Whatever you do, DONT FIND OUT THE CHEAP CURE! Cures that aren't profitable don't exist...according to the overlords.

Meanwhile, back in the old days, before our world was controlled by the great authorities, motivated by the almighty dollar, people USE TO TURN TO NATURE FOR THEIR TREATMENTS! MG treatments is no different!

Gripeweed, also known as Gale of the Wind, Stonebreaker, and Seed-under-leaf, can kill this bacteria. Something no antibiotic can do! So therefore, ask a vet, they will tell you THEY HAVE NO CURE! Go ask mother nature. She has one! God provided all we need. I am so blessed that I knew my great grandpa, who was a poultry farmer. Back in the days before all these controls and synthetic drugs. I just wish I had him longer. I am certain he took more info with him. Than the family absorbed!

Make a tincture of the weed. Dry the weed. Crush it, and add it to 80%vodka. Place in a dark spot. Shake it once a day. After four to six weeks, strain out the herb, and put the liquid in a dark bottle with glass eyedropper. You can add the removed herb to your chicken feed. A little at a time over several days. It does contain alcohol. So keep that in mind when feeding. Or, you can toss it if you don't feel comfortable feeding it to your birds.

Give this time ture to your sick bird, two drops daily until symptoms subside. You can so add a dropperfull to a gallon of water to treat the whole flock.

As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Just like taking measures to prevent other things, like mites for example, we need to also be taking measures to prevent viruses and bacterial infections. Help to build the immune system with good nutrition. And also adding natural antibacterial and antiviral herbs to your chicken’s daily feed ration. Herbs like astragalus, thyme, oregano, lemon balm, garlic, stinging nettle, yarrow, and echinacea are a great place to start. These steps help the birds to irradiated the bacteria before it ever gets a chance to take hold! But, even with all these measures, you can still end up with a sick bird. Because the bird can be stressed from something else, when it comes in contact with a bacteria. And then, you need to step in and help give it a boost, by giving it the tincture.

So much knowledge has been lost!!! Thanks to the medical industy, passing MARKETING TACTICS, as SCIENCE! Once upon a time, natural remedies was the only option. And people knew what to do! It was common practice. Now that knowledge is all but forgotten! And we are told "there is no cure". When the FACT IS, THEY DONT HAVE A CURE! IF they can't sell you something, then there is no treatment! When was the last time you went to the doctor or vet and was told to use an herb for your ailment? NEVER! No money to be made that way! And these practices have left everything, animals and humans and even plants, more vulnerable and more sick! And BRAINWASHED! We KNOW that if we go to a different environment, we are more susceptible to illness because we are exposed to new bacteria and viruses. Things our immune system does not know how to fight. Well, if we keep killing off the birds who survive MG, then the future birds are more susceptible and more vulnerable to it. We are making our flocks weaker and weaker by this practice! YES! Be forthright and don't sell any exposed birds to others. But don't just kill them off either!!! Look for what people USE TO DO FOR TREATMENTS! They didn't survive by good luck!!! And they certainly didn't have a vet to get antibiotics from! But they also didn't kill off their entire flock because of an illness either! Good luck.

Why dont you go ahead and get a patent and put this out on the market? I'm sure you'll be making $$$$ in no time.

Well one reason is, main reason, the authority doesn't like it when people sell natural remedies. You have to jump through all their hoops. and they would never allow anyone to say, "here is the treatment for such and such". You have to do studies to prove it. Meanwhile, pharmaceutical companies just lie about their studies. Or just hide the truth that the studies reveal. Or even tell the truth, and still are allowed to sell the drugs. Side affects worse than the ailment the drug is supposed to treat! But there isn't a whole lot they can do about us sharing the knowledge. Well, they do go about spreading lies. Saying its stupid to think that a plant can cure. Even go as far as to say its "dangerous!". And people believe it! Much like going to a vet and they say "dont feed your dog table scraps." Well, what did dogs eat before dogfood facotories? And how can we believe that FOOD isnt good for an animal? Yet, thats what people believe. All because the authority said so!

it is very simple to make a tincture. And gripeweed is very common. Well, I know it's common in the USA. So everyone can make their own really. It is just a matter of people learning that it is the treatment for MG. It use to be common knowledge. My Great Grandaddy knew it. He learned it from other chicken keepers, or maybe from his dad. Problem is, the knowledge is no longer passed down. Now, we don't go ask our elders what to do about an ailment. Now, we go to the vet or the doctor. And if they don't have some snake oil to sell you, then there is "no treatment". Translation, THEY don't have a treatment.

Seems to me there's plenty of natural remedy stores around, just have to look for them. You cant get advice how to go about it and get the ball rolling? Beats complaining about it! Get moving and take action!
