We just got a bourbon red turkey poult but it is not doing well. A friend picked it up for us and said the other one died last night. I want this one to live but am not sure what to do for it. I put surgar in the water and got it to take a couple sips We have it under a heat lamp. One of its feet the toes curl in and it doesn't put much weight on it. It feels raspy when it breaths. Is there anything else I can do for it? Does it sound like a cold or something???
I don't know how old it is. It is small. About the size of a 2week old chick. Has some wing feathers but not many. Looks alot like a baby chick.
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

What temp do you have it at? Make sure there is no drafts...Make sure you make it drink water often, but be careful you don't submerge the nostrils or it will drown. Hopefully someone else with more knowledge will help you out. If you could post a pic so they can try and figure out its approx. age.

Sounds like you have a weak poult on your hands.

Take and mix up 2 tablespoons of molasses to a gallon of warm water or mix a little and use your judgment on the amount of the molasses you use.

Get a 3cc syringe and fill with the mixture and then slowly force the poult to drink by placing him in one hand holding him on his back and place the syringe tip in his beak and SLOWLY push the solution in to him, when mouth gets full stop and let him swallow and repeat till gone, do this every other hour for a couple times and then once before you go to bed and when you wake up he should be better up and walking around if it is not to late.

I just got done doing this with 7 poults that we received in the mail on Friday and saved all but one, but he was way too far gone but still tried. and the other 6 were laying on their sides half dead yesterday and now today they act like nothing was ever wrong with them ??

Plus make sure he is good and warm.

Well he seemed to be doing better last night he was eating and drinking the sugar water. We had it warm in there with no drafts he seemed warm and other then his foot seemed like he was going to make it. He as alive and seemed okay at 6:30 but when I got up at 10:30 he was dead.

I wish he had made it , I hate it when they die so little.
