In the Brooder

I went to feed my 6 week old turkey poults yesterday and I noticed one was very lethargic. It had droopy wings and wasn’t keeping up with the others. I wasn’t thinking too much of it at first, but when I woke up this morning it had the same demeanor but worse. I quickly quarantined it and have him in a brooder with food and water. I’m lost as to what it could be sick with or what I can do to help it. It’s significantly smaller than the other poults I have. Could it be they are bullying him away from water and food? He’s drinking fine now but still seems sick and lethargic. Drooped feathers, head down a lot, and sleeping all the time.

It sounds like possible coccidisosis, and I would try the Corid. Give some of the undiluted Corid 0.1 ml per pound twice a day for a couple of days, in addition of putting it into the water for 5-7 days. Make sure it is taking plenty of fluids or give it to him with a dropper.

Thanks guys. I’m starting treating him today. He’s been pretty steadily declining so fingers crossed.
