Hello,

I have one hen (from 4 + rooster) who did a poop that was essentially just water - no substance to it at all, no blood, just clear. Then there was 1 egg that had no shell and I gather its from her too. Her backside is clean as a whistle. She is otherwise happy as can be, running around, scratching, foraging etc... Is this the beginning of something more sinister or is this just a 'sometimes-what-happens' kinda thing? They are all 6months old and have been laying for approx 3-4 weeks. All other eggs today have lovely hard shells. What are your thoughts?

She should be fine! Poop can be really watery when it gets hot outside due to the increased amount of water that they are drinking. As for the egg, her body is just trying to figure out how to regulate egg laying. Once and a while you get a weird egg and you will get all kinds of eggs in the beginning. Usually it is nothing to worry about. As long as she seems healthy and active otherwise she is fine.

Thanks Zebraffe4231.
Fantastic - thats what I was hoping to hear. I'll keep an eye on her though.

Also you should make sure that they have another source of calcium if you haven't already. This can be oyster shell in a separate dish. Just weave it there at all times and they'll eat it as they need it. This will make the egg shells nice and thick!

Just an update - she's laying beautiful, perfect eggs now (for the last 10 days or so) - seems like it was just her little system getting into gear. Thanks for the advice/support
