"Sickly" has strange skin irritation, loss of feathers

I have two chicks and this started happening to one of them this morning and now it looks like it's happening to the other one as well. I was worried until I read your update and am very happy for both you and Sticky. I will definitely try to give them a bath tomorrow. I have pictures but I'm not sure how to put them on here, am I missing a button?

I think that Gonzo's feathers are coming in. The way you described them, with soft feathers sticking out the end, are feather shafts that are covering the feathers. They will flake off, eventually. This is normal, but probably really uncomfortable for him, making him pretty unhappy.
Hope he does good for you.

Thank you--I love updates, especially happy updates! Hope it is Gonzie!

Can not believe I said Gonzo's " FUR " was coming in.

Yep, it was his FEATHERS. No one told me but after a couple of days, common sense kicked in. Which is what ya have to fuel yourself up with when raising chickens. Now my husband is talking Geese. I think he's been bit.

If Gonzo is Gonzie ... she's a mean chic. Today she was a bowling pin. Went under the other chicks & knocked them down. That's not a typical hen behavior from what I'm reading. When I fed them all spag. noodles today ... Gonzo was a mess. The CROAKING he did was un-real. He ran around & around in circles screaming and no other chick was after him. Gonzo is my problem child.

Off to read on croaking ....

My chicks started looking better after about 12 hours. Chalk it up to a bad hair day? I think I'll still give them a bath but will wait until it'sa little warmer. Thanks for your help Julie.
