Sickly hen that I need some ideas on what to do for her, help if you can please.

Hi all,

I have a hen who is not acting right, she has watery poop and pretty much keeps to herself even on the perch at night. She looks unkept and lethargic but will run up to us when we come out with food and eat a bit, she has also laid a couple of very soft eggs and what I mean by very soft is little to no shell that i can see. I can't feel an egg in her and her croop does not feel impacted. If anyone can give me any suggestions I would appreciate it.

You may want to worm her. I don't know her age.
She may have some laying problem , I think you may want to feel for an egg internally if that's not what you meant. Is she thin or losing weight? How bout lice or mites? How many other chickens do you have?

What is she eating. Layer pellets or crumbles. Does she have oyster shell free choice? She sounds like she has a calcium deficiency. You could give her a drop of poly vi sol children's vitamins with out iron. Just put the dropper next to her beak and see if you can get some in. Don't force it into her beak or she might aspirated into her lungs. You could also make a wet mash out of layer pellets and put the vitamins into the mash. Wet mash gets food and water into her at the same time. They usually love it. Best of luck and let us know how she is doing.
