Recently I noticed my bantam buff Cochin rooster seemed sickly. His face has a slight whitish crust on it, his comb is slightly pale, and his normal straight, full comb is limp. Aswfter scanning him over, I noticed he had little bugs on his skin. I will take care of that right away, but could those bugs be just the cause of his overall loss of health? The picture above isn't the best. His comb is paler then in the picture, and his face is usually a bright red but it's covered in a layer of white. And his comb is limp

Hi @Adrien515 Can you post a closeup of the white-ish crust?
Is it powdery or could it be nits from lice/mites since you saw bugs on his skin?
How old is he?
What type of food/treats do you feed him?

It's hard to know what the crust is on the face without seeing a different photo. Since you don't mention a white powder or crust on the comb, I would lean toward what you are seeing is lice nits, but that's just a guess.

If you are seeing bugs on his skin - then treat him with a Permethrin based poultry spray or dust. Clean out his housing and treat that as well. Read your label, but usually you will need to re-treat the bird and housing again in 7-10days to kill any critters that have hatched.

A heavy infestation of parasites can weaken a bird, so give him a boost of extra protein and some poultry vitamins a couple of times a week.

Keep us posted.

I won't be home for some hours... I'll post a picture when I can. Oh the bugs and a close up of his face. He's about 2 years, and he eats crumble layer rations and he's free to forage throughout the day.

I chop up veggies every now in then from our garden. He is also crippled and sometimes he sleeps on the ground when I forget to put him up in the roost with the rest.
