side ways toe on my smallest chicken

dont know how long the toe has been like this. she also wont let me pick her up she is about 5-4 weeks away from egg laying i will try to post a picture.

Chickens do have toe joints. I could be a vitamin deficiency, or it could be a broken toe.
Vet is always a good option if you have one that will see chickens. If she is difficult to catch, then I would wait until tonight when she is roosting, after dark, and get her then and give it a good look and try to get a picture. If you think it is broken then you can splint it. Here is a good site with info on splinting, scroll down to "chick shoes for curled or twisted toes", and just below that "toe taping": https://sites.google.com/a/poultrypedia.com/poultrypedia/poultry-podiatry
