my appleyard drake larry appeared to have 3 seizures tonite. he started walking off balance. then spread his wings and dropped to the ground in a sitting position. after each episode he remained stationary while standing. he also appeared to be panting. refused his favorite treat but would drink water.brought him inside and appears to be fine.what advice or suggestions could you all provide. please help. thank in advance . mj

Could he have gotten into something toxic? This sounds like it could be botulism. Could he have been getting into any decaying plant or animal matter?

If so, the stickies have an explanation of how to do a flush. He needs fresh water, certainly.

No outside of their own doo doo however we have larry and ethel resting indoors and he seems back to normal. i have heard of the use 0of niacin in their diets to offset a depletion any recommendations?

Brewer's yeast, a tablespoon sprinkled on their feed over the course of the day, has niacin. Or you could add 100 to 150 mg of niacin per gallon of water to their drinking water. Use the plain capsules, no special formulation like no-flush.

I was just writing to duckins about foods that might support nerve cells and I recall omega 3s and D3 as being good for people's brains, they probably would help duck brains, which are not working right when there is a seizure. Electrolyte imbalance can cause seizures, so a vitamin-electrolyte-probiotic mix would be a good idea. It's good for them to occasionally have that just during times of stress and change.

thanks for the info. i kept larry in last night and he seems back to normal. he and ethel went for a swim and they were splashing around and having a great time. he started eating again last night. so i will try some niacin in their water and keep a close eye. thanks again for your help.
