*sigh* looking for a free chicken dinner and just won't leave!!!!

Nor would i shoot such beautiful hawk.I employ the help of my resident crows.I feed them food scraps, so they hang out pretty often and chase away hawks in the area. The crows never bother my hens and in fact thier cries often warn my hens of danger. i know crows like to steal eggs and will snatch a chick if it can, but neither is accessible to the crows...its a perfect balance of nature...

It does look like a she...they are bigger in the underside and shaped slightly different. if you could download the sounds of another Falcon or a larger bird of prey such as a hawk or an eagle...play it loudly outside and keep moving the player around the property, she will move on and look for a new place to raise her babies.

The bad thing about her is her speed...Falcons are so fast that by the time you saw her dive she would have a chicken. The dog is pretty safe unless it is one of those Paris Hilton size chichi's.

They are actually worse than Hawks because while the hawk is a "rarely misses the kill" bird, they are bigger, slower and the chickens have time to find a hiding place is stuff is available for them to get under and in...the Falcon will miss the kill strike and have to hit its prey several times but it is so fast the prey does not have time to run and hide.

I worked with Birds of Prey being rehabbed...I am considering going to get my rehabber's license or a falconer's license. I love the birds of prey...Redtails and Peregrines being my favorites.

Duppydo...I have HUGE crows around here and welcome them also...they keep the redtails at bay for sure.

would hanging an owl work? I have red tail hawks in my yard that nest - and I have one of those big plastic owls I hang to scare away pilated woodpeckers and it also scares away the hawks. I have it on fishing line so it spins around in the tree.

Oh heavens - shoot it?! NOOOOO....

She would kill your chickens in a heartbeat.

Looks like they are going to be locked up for awhile.

You know they have those glue traps for rats and mice.

Get a fake chicken and put glue all over it (Just joking)

Buy one of those fake owls and put it on top of the coop.

Christy we always have the chicken hawk at our farm house lucky our rooster fights him off

but now the hawk tries to go after my pigeon and my rooster only fights when it comes to his hens so what i do is when i am at the farm house and i see the hawk i have that little red loud horn and as soon as the hawk fly's down at the pigeon pen i press that horn down and scares the heck out of him and he doesn't come back for almost 2 weeks

the owl works for me... keeps those woodpeckers away and the hawks, while I still hear them and see them (and my poor girls huddle at my feet when they hear them scream LOL

I'm a bad mom, I shouldnt laugh, but it IS funny to see their little butts running fast!) they dont come near the coop because the tree the owl is hanging in is right there.

I'd try it...

I may try the fake owls and the falcon recording then. As long as I can get her to move on wiothout stressing her to badly I will be happy.

LOL, Mark, I can just imagine your roo chasing off hawks. That is funny!!!!

Oh, as for the neighbors dog....poor guy is a teacup chihuahua. LOL Something slightly bigger than a rat.

I have a TINY puppy but she has been too whiny about the cold and is using her widdle pads right now so I don't have to worry about her.
